Lauren Alexis (a.k.a. Lexxi) is a native Detroiter with strong family roots in Brooklyn, New York. A multi-dimensional performer, she has been entertaining family, friends, and any audience she could find since the fearless age of four.
Alexis is an accomplished dancer with close to twenty years experience in many genres of dance including ballet, hip-hop, bellydance and professional ballroom. After performing in several theatre productions, she decided to capitalize on her vocal ability. She quickly graduated from vocal lessons to competitions and commercial work in television and radio. It wasn’t long before Alexis made her live debut on stage at several concert halls and casinos all around the Metro-Detroit area performing everything from top 40 and jazz to R&B and reggae. She eventually performed background for Rod Stewart and Alto Reed and became a regional finalist for “Star Search” as well as a Hollywood finalist for season five of “American Idol”. She was recently named one of Detroit’s top ten vocalists.
Famous for her one-take studio recordings, Lauren Alexis is a producer’s dream. This singular ability landed her a lead role in the hip-hop film “Brewster Project”, allowing her to sing, write, and work alongside notorious hip-hop artist Mr. Cheeks and Detroit’s own Trick-Trick and R&B songstress Regina Belle. Alexis was brought back to her theatre roots when she was cast for several inspirational stage plays including “If These Hips Could Talk” and Michael Baisden’s “Men Cry in the Dark”. She toured the country and worked side by side with the legendary Billie D. Williams as well as Richard Roundtree, Christopher Williams, Tichina Arnold, Allen Payne and many other national talents. With her captivating stage presence and sensuous multi-ethnic appeal, Alexis has been bringing audiences to their feet wherever she performs.
Despite her busy schedule, this tireless worker has not been distracted from honing her songwriting skills. Alexis is collaborating on a new impressive body of material. Tapping into and taking inspiration from her own musical influences, her style features unique vocals that blend her fresh melodies and powerful lyrics, enabling her to cross over from her R&B roots to blues to pop/rock and even gospel.
